Prize Money and the Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the Essay Competition Organized in Connection with 40th Founding Anniversary of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC)
The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) was constituted on 25th September 1969 at Rabat, Morocco. The primary goal is to elevate the wellbeing of the Muslim Ummah living in 57 OIC Member States as well as those living in other states of the world. This is the 40th year of the founding of the OIC.
The Islamic University of Technology (IUT) is a subsidiary organ of the OIC. The IUT authority decided in December 2008 to organize a number of events to commemorate the 40th founding anniversary of the OIC. The essay competition under reference is one of these events. The competition was duly completed in February 2009.
The prize money and the certificates were distributed among the winners of the essay competition on, "Investing in Research in OIC Countries: The Key to Sustained Development and Self-Reliance" through a simple ceremony organized in Islamic University of Technology (IUT) in the afternoon of 13th July 2009.
The topic suggested by one of the ex-IUT students and faculty and now completing PhD in Cambridge University of UK was selected out of 17 such topics proposed by the faculty members, senior officials and ex-IUT students.
Prof. Dr. M. Imtiaz Hossain, Vice Chancellor of IUT was present in the occasion as the Chief Guest and distributed the certificates and prize money among the winners. Prof. Dr. A. K. M. Iqbal Hossain, Head, EEC presided over the session.
Engr. K. O. Awal, Assistant Professor, Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department and organizer of the competition gave a brief overview of the competition and presented the following three winners of the competition:-

Mr. Md. Shahedul Amin, winner of the first position in the competition emphasized on the importance of research for the socio-economic development of a country and told that such competition should be organized at future dates too and that the scope should be widened to include all universities of the OIC Member States.
Prof. Iqbal Hossain said that students start writing essays from early school days. Essay writing improves thinking capability and as such should be pursued. He thanked the organizers and the participants.
Prof. Imtiaz Hossain stressed on the need and importance of research for sustainable development. Research helps to acquire new knowledge which is essential for socio-economic development of a country. He told that the OIC Member States are still far behind compared to the developed world in the area of research. More funds have to be invested in the research fields. But the patience is also necessary and efforts to this end have to be continued.
