Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Dhaka, a subsidiary organ of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is mandated by OIC to develop human resources of the Member States in the fields of engineering, technology and technical education. The Road Map for the Development of Socio Economic and Scientific Issues adopted after the Third Extraordinary Summit of OIC recommends the minimizing of the digital gap. This is also one of the important activities of the 10 year Action Plan of OIC.

In order to attain these objectives, IUT is offering long and short courses for the OIC member states at various levels. Keeping in mind the importance of computer in our daily life, the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (CIT) started to offer Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology. CIT Department also offers M.Sc. (CIT), Moreover, IUT is offering B.Sc. Engg. and M.Sc. Engg, degrees in Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Mechanical & Chemical Engineering. IUT also offers courses for Diploma, Bachelor's degree, Post-graduate Diploma and Master's degree in Technical Education.

Tourism is treated as the largest industry in the world considering gross output, value added, employment and tax contributions. Tourism is inevitably influenced by the e-technology. The Internet has provided a new economic environment for conducting business having higher communication speed, global accessibility and the minimal costs of establishing a business online. The tourism sector of many OIC countries is at its infant stage although in few of them some recent progress has been achieved.

Considering the importance of tourism and the status of OIC member states a proposal for organizing an International Seminar on "Development of E-Tourism Technologies in Islamic Countries" at Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Dhaka was discussed in the 5th session of Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers (ICTM) held in Republic of Azerbaijan. The matter was further discussed in the 2nd OIC experts Groups Meeting on Tourism Development held during 9-11 may 2007 at Istanbul, Turkey. The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (CIT), Islamic University of Technology (IUT) is going to organize the seminar during 22-24 April, 2008.
