Tourism is
treated as the largest industry in the world considering gross output, value
added, employment and tax contributions. Tourism is inevitably influenced by
the e-technology. The Internet has provided a new economic environment for
conducting business having higher communication speed, global accessibility
and the minimal costs of establishing a business online. The tourism sector
of many OIC countries is at its infant stage although in few of them some
recent progress has been achieved.
Considering the importance of tourism and the status of OIC member states a
proposal for organizing an International Seminar on "Development of
E-Tourism Technologies in Islamic Countries" at Islamic University
of Technology (IUT), Dhaka was discussed in the 5th session of
Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers (ICTM) held in Republic of
Azerbaijan. The matter was further discussed in the 2nd OIC experts Groups
Meeting on Tourism Development held during 9-11 may 2007 at Istanbul,
Turkey. The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (CIT),
Islamic University of Technology (IUT) is going to organize the seminar
