The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering started at IUT in 2008. The department academic session has started from January 8, 2009 and with an enrolment of 41 students for the first batch. The establishment of Civil and Environmental Engineering will provide high quality of education through its appropriate curriculum and courses for Civil and Environmental Engineers. It is expected that the department's staff will provide quality teaching, research and consultancy with utmost sincerity and hard work. Civil and Environmental engineers contribute to the health, safety, and quality of life through the design, construction, and operation of public and private infrastructure. The mission of the Civil and Environmental Engineering is to:

Civil and environmental engineers are the engineers who help to build our society. Historically, Civil Engineers have been responsible for the creation and maintenance of the built environment while environmental engineers work on methods to protect human health and the environment.
Civil and Environmental Engineering department of IUT has been established to meet the growing challenges by addressing the problems and threats that exists to our built and natural environments. We are dedicated to position ourselves as world leaders in the field of Engineering to acheive sustainability, with the goal of developing professional skills through efficient use of resources.
Since the future of the Civil and Environmental Engineering professions is increasingly multidisciplinary, hence the future of the profession requires that a multiplicity of disciplines come together in a cooperative, collaborative work model to produce the sustainable results that the world increasingly requires.
Our department is dedicated to the close collaboration between various disciplines which emphasis on the collegial relationship between students and faculty staffs. Prospective students will find that our collegial environment is often mentioned by current students as one of the most important aspects of their education here.
A long-term strategic goal of the department has been to embrace the growth of synergy between our academic strengths of the Built Environment, Water Systems and Atmosphere and Energy. Under the department's commitment to sustainability, we have focused on structuring our academic programs to provide students the full advantage of our broad vision of the future of Civil and Environmental Engineering professions. At the same time, CEE has a created a platform for giving students the opportunity to find their areas of specialized interest.
The Civil Engineering programme is expected to produce high quality and standard graduates with hands on experience who will have great opportunities in the continuously growing developing world specially among the OIC members to develop and share knowledge and skills of Civil Engineering. The climate change and its impact on infrastructures integrated through Environmental Design would enable the graduates with major in Environmental Engineering to be recruited within Consultancies, Contractors and Government Departments in the OIC member states and overseas.
