The
students spend a lot of their time at IUT Library
and Documentation Centre. It is located in the first
floor of the Library/Cafeteria Building overlooking
a beautiful waterpool both on the eastern and western
sides. The library has a present floor area of 1300
sq. meter with a shelf space of 52,000 books. The
library is fully air-conditioned and well furnished
with modern furniture. The library is divided into
two sections, General and Research/Reference.
To
conduct the IUT Library service effectively and efficiently,
a customized software has been developed and installed
in the IUT Library. Around twenty-six thousand data
of books have been inputed. Also the data of projects/thesis/dissertations
have been incorporated in the said software namely
BookTrax. The Library is also in a process to computerize
its other information resources. Now the faculty members
and the students may search their desired books/dissertation
from OPAC (on-line Public Access Catalogue). Local
Area Network (LAN) also established in the IUT Campus.
Now the members of the IUT working in the campus have
the access to Library database through LAN. Circulation
system has been computerized and the information consumers
can borrow their needed books through automated bar-code
system.
IUT
Library has the facilities of online journal search.
Now the information consumers of IUT have the access
to online journals and e-resources of the renowned
publishers like Cambridge University Press, Wiley
Inter-Science, American Chemical Society,
Blackwell-Synergy, Springer and Oxford Press etc. More
than two thousand titles of journals of different
disciplines like science and technology, engineering,
computer science, environmental science, education,
social science, life science etc. are now available
online for the IUT information users. Students,
faculty and staff members may now browse and download
their required research articles and e-resources etc.
IUT Library has the Internet facility. Information
consumers now have the access to different databases
of knowledge.
At present there are 26200 books on engineering, technical
and vocational subjects. 20 technical journals are
being subscribed from abroad annually. The library
is managed by a group of expert personnel. It is an
open shelf library. Books are issued to the students
and staff for home use. It is open from 8.00 am to
10.00 pm on all working days. Library is also open
on one weekend between 2-00 pm. to 10 pm. It has photocopy
section which servers the purpose of the students,
faculty, and office staff constantly. Since all the
students live in campus the library is the only place
where they can utilize their time by reading books
and taking notes upto 10-00 pm everyday.
IUT
Library has subscribed on-line journals of PERI (Programme
for Enhancement of Research Information) Programme of
INASP (International Network on Availability of
Scientific Publications) of UK. In this on-line
network system students, faculty and staff members may
now browse and download their required articles,
e-resources etc. Journals of the following publishers
are in on-line for IUT information users. To access
