Courses offered by department of CIT

The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology offers courses for instruction and training leading to the examinations for the award of-

Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science and Information Technology
Master of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology, M.Sc.(CIT)
Master of Science in Computer Science and Application, M.Sc.(CSA)
Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science and Information Technology, PGD (CIT)
Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science and Application, PGD (CSA)
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology, B.Sc.(CIT)
Higher Diploma in Computer Science and Information Technology, (HDCIT)

The Master of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology, Master of Science in Computer Science & Application, Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science and Information Technology, Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science & Application involve varying hours of research, projects, course works requiring 36, 36, 24, 24 credit hours will normally require 3, 3, 2, and 2 semesters respectively.

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology comprises of four years of study consisting of eight consecutive semesters of sixteen weeks duration each. However, there is a provision for award of Higher Diploma in Computer Science and Information Technology after successful completion of three years (six semesters) of study. Higher Diploma in Computer Science and Information Technology graduates may also continue further for completion of B.Sc. in Computer Science and Information Technology programme. The admission requirements are terminal Higher/Upper Secondary School Certificate with science background i.e., university entry requirements. The total contact hours in classes and laboratories are 25-30 hours per week. The curricula includes modern courses like web development, web programming, RDBMS, Multimedia Application, Visual Programming including conventional theories. Moreover, advanced courses like Distributed and Parallel Processing, Distributed Operating System, Object Oriented Modeling and Design are included. It also covers some non-departmental courses like Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Commerce, Humanities and language that will help the students to improve their logic and to understand the people and environment and teach them to cope with people wisely. Courses are designed to completely fulfil the engineering requirements.

The department provides laboratory facilities through Computer Centre equipped with modern PCs connected with networks running on Novell, Linux, AIX, SCO UNIX and Windows 95/98/2000 operating systems.

The CIT department also deals with the computer related courses of other departments of the University. It also supports e-mail and internet facilities to all the students and employees of the University through Computer Centre. Short courses are being offered in the semester break, normally in November-December every year on timely and demanding topics. Participants from different OIC member countries take part in the short course. The most recent short course was held on "Development of Modern Telecommunication Services"  from 17 November to 21 November 2007.
